Last Days of Summer - Aurifil BOM - and GIVEAWAY!

How is it possible that we're coming
to the end of summer?

This was a big summer for me.  One of the reasons you haven't heard much from us on our blog!

Last week, I took my girl off to college.
You know.  The one that wasn't supposed to grow up but did anyway? For rude.

I spent the summer making quilty things for her dorm room.

(Spent some fun screen printing, creative days with Amanda Herring, The Quilted Fish!)

And made quilty things for my girlie's friends too!

In essence.  I've spent my summer quilting!
Pretty perfect, huh? And there may be a few
tears mixed in with some of those stitches, but I'll tell you this much.  Thank goodness for a hobby that doesn't let you wallow.  Too darned busy for that!
I loved that I was able to send my daughter and her friends off with special hugs from Mama Hawk.

SO.  As a final salute to summer, let's knock it out with a big BANG shall we?

We want to know what YOU have been up to all summer!
Have you been quilting? Vacationing?  Both?

  1. It's been a busy summer of gardening & sewing. We ripped out the barberry bushes and pine tree in front of our house and put in a perennial bed with hydrangeas & roses in its place...so beautiful!!

  2. Oh I've been working on my hexagon quilt.. STILL! Trying so hard to get it finished. And then for some reason I decided to rescue a puppy from the shelter, so everything is on hold while we work on potty training. I didn't realize how exhausting this would be!! LOL. It is like having a baby in the house. Salute all those quilters who are doing it with babies in the house!

  3. We haven't had much of a summer here in England! but I've been doing lots of gardening! and we have put up a new fence and re-laid part of the blocks in our drive! I've done some screenprinting and a little sewing!

  4. I've been doing a lot of sewing also. Lots of pillowcases for kids in the hospital, quilts for 2 daughters and one for the homeless shelter. Plus a few baby quilts for future little ones. All with Aurifil thread.

  5. I've been working, taking care of chickens in the horrid heat, trying to get my sampler quilt quilted for my sister, read LOTS of books, won quite a few of those books, and pretty much just sat and sweated in the heat because we live in an old 1935 farmhouse with no air conditioning. LOL

  6. It has been a great summer of spending memory making time with my Grand daughters at the beach, quilting an Anniversary quilt and hosting some of my family. I also started taking a Knitting class this summer.

  7. I have been working on two quilt alongs this summer and another quilt. I am hoping to finish them and use them as Christms presents. Also, I have read several books right now I am reading A Poisened Season by Tasha Alexander.

  8. Wish I could say I accomplished a lot of quilting but not so much.
I'm currently nursing my husband after he had a serious bicycle accident. Maybe the Fall will be more productive, I hope.

  9. I have been trying to get UFOs finished in between cleaning out my grandmother's house and keeping my 5 yr old occupied. In finishing my UFOs I've almost finished up one large spool of 50wt Aurifil thread - love it!

  13. I've been stitching, baking, and running (just scroll through my blog and you'll get your fill of it all!). I've ran a Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Mud battle, a 15K, two half marathons, and a 5k on our anniversary, all worked into training for our first marathon which is in (EEK) 15 days. And, on my oh-so-lovely rest days, I've designed and made a new purse, a pouch for the gym, and finished a couple quilt tops that are now in the waiting-to-be-quilted pile. And I've been knitting. When my legs aren't piling on the miles, I have to keep my hands busy somehow!

  14. Put a picture up on your FB site. I couldn't make the link work so I hope that was what I was supposed to do. Not smart tonight...

  15. I've been trying to finish some quilts and I did finish my newest granddaughter's quilt and a frog appliqué quilt. I spent most of the month of July and August with grand babies visiting. Our son-in-law competed in the Olympics in London and our youngest daughter was able to go with him and we kept our two year old granddaughter. So, not much quilting was done? :-) but our son-in-law did win a gold! Thanks for the chance towin some Aurifil thread. I love it!

  16. My Summer has been so busy with yard work-- and mowing, mowing, mowing... but in between all that yard work an mowing, I've found a little time to work on some embroidery projects. The latest is a pillowcase with a little grey kitten laying in a bed of blue flowers... :-)

Thank you so much for the chance to win some Aurifil thread-- I love new thread!!! :-)

  17. We had a wonderful vacation, then getting ready to send our baby to college, too! Busy, busy stuff, but not nearly enough quilting (I still need to finish her dorm quilt!)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Love the Call Your Mom pillows! Awesome! But, my daughter called me about 5 times a day at college, so she obviously didn't need a reminder - LOL! I've been busy working on a few wedding quilts this summer! What a great giveaway - thanks so much for the chance to win some Aurifil!

  19. We've been busy working out the exterior of our house..painting, driveway repair and new porch stairs. I did get a chance to sew some cushions and pillows for my porch furniture but we haven't had a second to sit out there and take a load off. I'm actually looking forward to winter and being cooped up in the house..just me, my sewing machine and a pile of fabric to wade through.

  20. This summer I have been renovating, new flooring in kitchen, bathroom, and hardwood installed. Painting cupboards, walls, ceilings and on and on. So no sewing and I can hardly wait to get into my sewing room. Would love aurifil thread to try it out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. We moved this summer and I didn't finish that or probably anything else I started as a summer project. I am in love with my new studio space, but certainly not the moving process. It was completely overwhelming. I have the studio set up enough to be functional and am taking a break from the unpacking and organizing that seems never ending. For now, I need to create.

  22. I've spent my summer working, quilting and reading (but not necessarily in that order). My last hurrah is my vacation starts this week! Then I'll get started on some Christmas projects when I get back. Would love to play with the thread, thanks for the give away!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've been working on "Orca Bay", a pattern for a scrapquilt by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.
Furthermore, after I found some shop in Germany that sells quite a few Aurifil colors, I have sewn a skirt with Aurifil. I love this thread! I love the way the seams look and that there is actually no lint at all.

I'd love to win the thread since the threads you're offering are a different weight than mine (which are 50wt) and I'd love to find out how much I love the other weights as well.

  24. This summer has really flown by! I put in a garden for the first time this year. That was alot of work but fun. I've been working on 2 tumbling block quilts. I've also starting my Christmas gifts. I want to be done by Thanksgiving.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I completed a small section of an applique quilt. I crocheted some star ornaments to use for gift tags for Christmas. I read a couple books. Not too busy a summer for me. I'm on summer break so I needed some relaxation.

  26. Started my summer with a vacation in Australia..the highlight of my 3 weeks was spending 2 days with Saly, quilting friend in Nelson Bay (showed her all the FB quilting sites and blogs like yours). So my summer started out great...then back to work as the incoming students came for their advising events...then I took a quick break to visit my daughter in San Diego before she left for University of Oregon School of Law. Then I was off to Honolulu, where Sally and I overlapped by 24 hrs. She landed and in 2 hours we were on the road participating in the local Shop Hop. When it comes to quilting, I think jet lag is not a problem.

  27. We had a fun vacation trip to Canada this summer, but other than that it has been one of those summers that we will be happy to see end (family illnesses, etc. - sorry for the downer). So only a little sewing and just trying to get through it. This would definitely cheer things up! Thanks for the chance to win!

  28. It was a DREAM Summer!
I created over 2 dozen quilt tops, hand quilted 3 quilts and...created a quilt for a quilt magazine...but that's top secret and I can't give out those details, other than I worked with some amazing fabric from Timeless Treasures.

  31. I can't believe that the summer went by so fast! I was just getting used to the "no-school-traffic-on-my-way-to-work" schedule, and now it's back. :< Anyway, I worked on a BOM from my LQS, did some knitting and I put together a quilt for my newest Great niece, Elise. I haven't figured out how I want to quilt it yet, so it is sitting in my sewing room guilting me out every time I walk in there!

  38. I've had a productive summer for once! LOL First off, I cleaned and reorganized the sewing room. Then I completed hubby's Hanging Garden quilt top and took it to the long arm quilter to do. I took the left over strips from it and made a jelly roll race quilt for a friend from them and yesterday I finished another jelly roll race quilt top. Will get it basted and quilted by week's end as it is a birthday present for my dad. I put myself on new project restriction, so I haven't done any of the BOMs. Once I get some more projects completed, then I will start something new!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  63. I have been Hexie-obsessed this summer. I am making a scrappy flower quilt with 1.5-inch hexagons. I noticed that I often had smaller scraps that needed to be used too, so I started making a 3/4-hexagon of every fabric I used - I am collecting them (and probably will be for years to come) for a super scrappy quilt to come :-)

  71. Besides going to work, I have spent a lot of time taking my dad to Dr appts. He just had his 4th redo total hip replacement. Unfortunately, the femur broke a few days after surgery and they had to go back and put bands around the femur. He is 88yrs old and will have a long recovery but is doing good. During the hours of surgery I worked on an embroidery piece I am doing called "My Sewing Room". I actually am using my first spool of Aurifil thread and am loving it. Hope I am lucky enough to win some more. Thanks.

  72. This summer I worked steadily on a Sunbonnet BOY quilt for my wonderful, smart, cute, lovable 2 yar old great-grandson, Kylar. Each block has a hand-appliqued boy with a landscape background. I drew the boys so all are different poses. One has a kite, one a basketball, one holds flowers, etc. and all are dressed differently. Because this little boy is obsessed with trains, I designed and appliqued a train across the top to go on the pillow area.
