Day 3 - On the EDGE - IT'S OUR DAY!!!

WOOOHOOO!  IT'S OUR DAY!
Notice the music playing??? This has been going thru my head ALL week on this hop!  So of course I had to share.
Please, feel free to turn the darn thing off! ------->

First, the important stuff....

These are the amazing rulers I got from Sullivan's to try out for this hop.  I was sooo EXCITED to get them in the mail.  I mean, who isn't excited to try out a new tool?  Especially since Miz. Pat Sloan, our pal, put in so much work to design it just for us quilty folk.

This is what I've learned.  First, that it's not so easy to design a new ruler as Pat will tell you!  There were lots of patents out there, so she had to completely re-think this project.  It wasn't a piece of cake for the peeps at Sullivan either, they had this idea to use Diamond Carbide (sounds fancy!) to sharpen rotary blades just like a knife sharpener.  Great idea!  But they had to make the edge JUST right.  It was a year in the making, and I'll tell you what I LOVE!

I've been working on a black/white/yellow beauty....

I made sure I had the sharpening edge on the right side, and just a word of warning, it's LOUD when you run your blade against it!
LOL, it made me jump the first time, but I quickly got used to it...
the sound of my blade being sharpened.

See how shiny the edge got?

Aside from the obvious sharpening bonus, I LOVE the way Pat designed the rulers.  The markings were so well thought out, and my fav part?  The frosty finish on the rulers!  I hate totally see through rulers.  In fact, I keep the paper on the back!  How many times do you go to cut a busy piece of fabric only to lose the markings on the ruler?  Too many times to count.  With the frosty finish, you can see everything perfectly, and the bold red/black markings just add to the overall pros of this handy-dandy tool.

Great job Pat and the peeps at Sullivans!

Now aren't y'all ready to win one too?  By now you should know that each of us bloggers in the hop gets to choose a winner!  So make sure to leave us a comment today to be in the running from our blog.

NOW....
The fun stuff.

We're supposed to answer these two questions:

1. If you looked inside our fridge, what would you see?

YIKES!  This was scary.  Wanna peek?

Ok.  That's Beth's.  Although I noticed something missing here.  I've been to her house before and seen a big tub of Nestle Chocolate Chip cookie dough....with SPOONS inside.  After all, why bake it?

And here's MINE....

What?  You don't put clothes in your fridge?

There's fruit and veggies down there too....

(and yes, shameless promotion of my fav baseball team!)

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

I actually got this idea at Beth's house.  No, she didn't have clothing stacked in her fridge.  However, her college boys sharing a house in town DID!  After a nice sweaty game of basketball one of their friends likes to stick his shirt (yes, sweaty) in the fridge to cool it off!!!  I thought that was hysterical.  And, in a strange sort of way, made perfect sense.  But, uh, glad it wasn't MY fridge.

Just so you know, I had to do a serious clean-out for my photo shoot!  I shoulda taken a before pic, but let's just say I found plenty of science projects, including a bag full of green slimy stuff that MIGHT have been lettuce at one point....

Next question:
2. What actress would play you in the movie of your life?

No. Idea!

I mean, we ARE a bit Thelma and Louise...

Actually, I think we might be more...

Yep.  THAT'S us!

Answer this: What actor/actress best describes YOU???  Have you been mistaken for someone famous before?  Said you looked like someone famous??? DO TELL!

Now, for the recipe portion.....whew, this is a huge post!

Thanks for all your recipe ideas.  I have two recipes to post, I'll do one today and one tomorrow, how's that?

So for today....The Lizzie B Cre8ive Cookie

This is a basic recipe with some funky add-ins you MUST try.  Seriously.  Try it.

First, you need some important ingredients...

My fav vanilla!

Yes, Rolo's...which you could roll to your friends, or you could just...

Chop 'em up nicely! (and share a cookie with a friend!)

And yes, Kettle chips.  This is the very important secret ingredient.

Recipe:
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla (bourbon!)
2 cups flour
1 cup oatmeal (old-fashioned)
1/2 tsp. coarse sea-salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
2 packs of Rolos, chopped
1 1/2 cups crushed Kettle cooked potato chips

In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Add flour, salt, baking soda and ALL the yummy add-ins.  Mix like crazy.  Drop by tablespoons on a non-stick cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for FIVE MINUTES.  Yes, just 5.  They will still look doughy in the middle when you take them out, but brown around the edges.  Trust me, they're done.

ENJOY!!!

Now get baking!
You need these.

And check out Sarah Fielke's blog while they're in the oven at

Don't forget to leave a comment to WIN a ruler!

  1. I love Rolos so I may have to try that cookie recipe although I think the potato chips in the mix seem a bit weird.

  2. When I was about 12-14, I used to have people come up to me and ask for my autograph!! They would think I was "Jo" from facts of life... I was SOOOO flattered, cause she was my favorite of the bunch, and a little bewildered b/c I didn't see it, but it was fun to be thought of as someone famous!

  3. I do love potato chip cookies, but I've never made them with Rolos. My rotary blad always needs sharpening.

  4. Really, potato chips? Are the cookies as irresistible as potato chips? If so, I can't have them in my house. Thanks for the recipe and giveaway. Kathie L in Allentown

  9. OMG, those cookies look amazing!!

I don't really get mistaken for anyone famous, but in college people used to tell me I resembled/or reminded them of Cheri O'Terri in SNL's Spartan skits. Not sure if that's a good thing?

  10. I don't look like anyone famous and have never been mistaken for anyone else. Thanks for the cookie recipe I'll be sure to try this this weekend, it looks YUMMY!! Thanks for the chance to win this ruler-I use my rotary ALOT and my blades could always use a sharpening!!

  11. Never would have thought of mixing potato chips into a recipe cookie, but I will bite...a little salty and little sweet! In high school, I was sometimes called "Brenda" b/c some thought I looked like Shannon Doherty from 90210. It must have been the bangs b/c I didn't see the resemblance.

    ReplyDelete
  12. When I was younger a friend showed me a picture in a magazine, that they thought I looked like. I don't think they were famous, but were in a magazine! I would love to be Sophia Loren. She is so pretty and talented!

  13. That is the most bizarre cookie recipe I have ever seen! Really - LOL! So bizarre, I HAVE to try it! Will let you know how they turned out tomorrow ;)

People mistake me every day for Angelina Jolie - it's a burden, but I'm willing to bear it :)

Thanks for a chance to win!

  14. Now those are some interesting sounding cookies! I am totally excited about these rulers and really want to try them! Oh, and I used to get told I look like Sara Gilbert, but not so much anymore, maybe because she is not on tv anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  15. When I was young people used to say I looked like Ali McGraw. I think it was just the long brown hair parted in the middle.

Those cookies look soooo yummy! I'm going to have to try them. Thanks for the chance to win.

  21. Thanks so much for the ruler review, I've been debating on the investment and after this hop I'm pretty sure I'm going to snag one up for sure. I am told by many that I resemble Michelle Pfeifer, in fact my bestie calls me Michelle all the time! LOL And for the record, I am not putting sweaty clothes in my fridge but I will definitely try those cookies for sure!

  22. Thanks for participating in the giveaway. I would love to add these rulers to my collection. Your recipe sounds intriguing, but a little weird for my tastes. BTW, I'd love to peruse your blog, but the music player wreaks havoc with my computer. It takes forever to load the pages.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That cookie recipe looks really interesting. Wish someone would come and bake them for me. I don't look like anyone famouse but I would like to work in the candy factory like Lucy and Ethel did. I would be just like her stuffing my mouth full of chocolates.

  24. LOVE these rulers from what I've seen so far in the blog tour and the last one Pat did for them too. With her being a quilter the markings must be wonderful. Being so new those markings can be confusing and even moreso when you have a ruler that's hard to read already.

Oh gosh, Kathie Bates is the only one I can think of that I would be like other than friends when I was younger said I reminded them of Roseanne (when she was still doing stand up). To my knowledge, I look like no one famous although my Mother when she and my Father were first married was the spitting image, red hair and all to Lucille Ball. I've got their engagement picture on my wall and have had people ask if that was Lucy and Ricky. My dad did have a slight resemblance to Ricky as well but nothing like my Mom's to Lucy.

When I was in high school, one of the cookie recipes I made all the time was for Potato Chip cookies and in the fall I would add Rolo candies and sometimes even some chopped apples to the recipe before baking. They reminded everyone of taffy apples with a crunch. SO good so I'm positive anyone that does not try this recipe is going to be missing something wonderful. Thank you for this because I had lost my recipe over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow, I never even knew there were cookie recipes with potato chips in them. I wonder what they would be like with out the chips? I do like rolos though :)These rulers look great, thanks!

  46. I would love Sandra Bullock, mostly because I just love her in anything she is in. Not because I am mistaken for her or anything. We both have dark hair and I used to wear it long. But that is where the similarity ends.

  61. My potato chip cookies have been a family favorite for more than 40 years, so I'm anxious to try your variation on the recipe.

Last night, I asked my husband who he thought should play me in a movie of my life and he answered Phylicia Rashad (a.k.a. Claire Huxtable from The Cosby Show).

I need the new Sullivans 6.5" x 24" ruler, since the numbers have rubbed off of my old ruler of that size.

  74. I soooo want one of those rulers. That is just too Great. Yes it was a shameless why to promote your team, but I think very clever. I think I look like a normal girl next door type. I've never been mistaken for someone famous. Closest I come would be: I worked with an Ambulance company on the sideline football games in our area for years...saw a lot of football players who went on to play college and pro ball. When Ben Obamahu was at Auburn we were getting a football signed. He looked up and told the other two guys at the table who I was...who knew that I made an impact on him. I felt really special.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love cookies, so will have to try this! My fridge needs a good cleaning too and should have thought of putting my clothes in there during the hot summer. Oh how wonderful it would have felt to put on cool clothes!

  87. Oh yum..your receipe sounds great. I'll have to buy double the rolos as I'm sure they would not all make it into the bowl.hehe. I was wondering if the ruler made a noise or not. Sounds like it's not too bad though. When I was younger and had my hair in a page boy style, I was often told I looked like Tennile of Captain and Tennile. More recently I've been told I look similar to Carol Burnet. That probably had more to do with the haircut as well.

Thank you so much for the giveaway and a chance to win.

  101. I've never been mistaken for an actress but was told that I was another Martha Stewart (in regards to my crafts and cooking). I have to try these cookies, the ingredients are so different than any I've tried in cookies. Thank you for the recipe!

  115. Well, I never would have thought to put potato chips of any kind in cookies!... but then you are more creative than me!
My daughter did put 'salt free seasoning' (the kind for 'real food' in her cookies for a bake sale... and they sold out in a flash. Everyone wanted to know what that 'unusual' flavor was!

Thanks for a chance to win one of those fantastic rulers!

  119. Kettle Chips in a cookie? Wow, must try that! I've never been mistaken for anyone famous, I'm afraid, though when I worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London, I often saw really famous people. Often, I'd think they were someone I actually knew so I'd say hello. They were always polite enough to say hello back!

  120. I just asked my husband this question yesterday. He told me Christina Ricci and I wasn't too happy about that! I like to think of myself more of a Zooey Deshancel (sp?!) kinda girl. I have to make those cookies! Yum!

  122. Traci Ullman. I actually have been asked if I was. I always wanted to be Barbra Streisand, cause we have the same first name, although she spells it wrong and I loved to sing. Especially when she was funky, long, long ago before she became political and high power, demanding. Thanks.

  124. I know this is late, but I tried to comment 50x's yesterday and couldn't figure out what was wrong...I had changed to the new blogspot profile. I had to change back to the old to get it to work!

  125. Those cookies sound delicious, I will save that recipe for sure! I have been told that I look like Marsha Mason, you have to be old to remember her..

  126. First of all, I was unable to comment yesterday because no scroll bar appeared in your blogspot. Anyhow, I think Michelle Yeoh should portray me...she is very talented...and I wish I could do the martial art moves that she does so well. Never been mistaken for any actress...but not too many asian ladies in my quilting guild and the people there often get us mixed up. I just answer how the other person would and pretend I'm her!
