COOKIE COUNTDOWN! Day #4
In our house, these are just known as...
the white cookies
All four of my boys love them. They will eat pretty much everything, but they ASK for these.
They might be everyone's favorite.
(But here's a lil' secret...
they are also the easiest to make!)
It's not an old family recipe, at least not from my family. My mom (known affectionately as 'Mama C' in Quilt Market circles!) got this recipe from her friend Martha. (She was a wonderful quilter too!) And so all of her quilter friends call these cookies "Martha's cookies".
We just call them "THE WHITE COOKIES".
And my boys know what I'm talking' about.
Here's the recipe:
2 cubes softened butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups flour
1. Mix all of the ingredients together to make the dough and press into a cookie sheet.
2. Spread powdered sugar on top (as much as you want, I use LOTS, about 2 cups!) and press into dough. A lot of it will still be "loose" on top.
3. Bake 350 18-19 min. Cut into squares while still warm.
YUM!
On a scale of 1 to 10....
these cookies are about a 1 for easy!
and definitely a 10 for DeLisH-ish-NeSs!

ReplyDeleteThey certainly look easy. I will have to try these.
ReplyDeleteO.K. this the perfect cookie for me, both easy and delicious. This is the kind of recipe in need this year.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a recipe I want to try. I have a question though, the 2 cubes of butter - does that mean (2) four ounce sticks of butter?
ReplyDeleteYes, 2 sticks of butter. One cup. It's funny, my
ReplyDeleteMom always says "cubes", so that makes sense to me, but maybe no one else says that! Could be confusing...so thanks for asking!
I'm a follower and will plan to try some of your recipes! I ususally wait to bake when my son comes home from university...that way the house always smells good and there is a fresh treat coming out of the oven every day! And if I bake now, I'll eat it all!
ReplyDeleteThose do look so delicious.
ReplyDeleteWill definitely have to try these, I like easy!
ReplyDeleteSOUNDS SO YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING!
So easy to make and my DGD will love to help make these. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThese cookies do look pretty easy to make. I will have to give them a try and I like the bar cookies when you are in a hurry. Just one pan. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeletedo like the one pan, too ... will have to sub splenda if i use all that powdered sugar.
ReplyDeleteThese look DELICIOUS! thank you for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteCertainly sounds easy to make - will have to give them a try.
ReplyDeleteThese sound so yummy! I will have to try them sometime. Wonder what they would taste like with a little lemon juice or flavoring in them? Hmmm.....
ReplyDeleteSandy A
Could you explain the two cubes of butter? Yummy sounding cookies!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, this is fabulous and gives me the most fantastic idea. I'm Greek and we make a cookie that looks like wedding cookies but are much, much better. Trouble is we make them individually, now I can do them as a pan cookie. As for the powdered sugar, when we make the cookies the first sifted layer melts onto the cookie b/c they're hot so we have to sift on a 2nd layer to have "powdered" sugar on the outside. This is soooo much easier! Did that make any sense at all? At least I know what's going on in my own brain!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway, and the great recipe!

ReplyDeleteI made these tonight after reading your blog post. They are CRAZY delicious! Thank you for sharing your recipe!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies just keep getting yummier and yummier--- and these sound SO easy to make!! Thank you for sharing this recipe! I think I'll make a batch for Christmas dinner-- if not sooner! :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, this one is going on the list. To accompany the white cookies, I'll email you a copy of the best chocolate cookies I've ever tried called Mudslide Cookies. ;)
ReplyDeleteThese do look great! Another one I'll have to try.
ReplyDeleteI love easy cookies and these look great. I think I might add cherries to the mix and use a cuter to make shapes as soon as they are cooked and still soft. Don't know if it will work but they would look cute and the leftover bits wouldn't be wasted!!!!
ReplyDeletewhoa. i have never seen cookies like this!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to try these!
ReplyDeleteThese look yummy and I love the easy part, thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh those look SO good!! Love how easy they are!
ReplyDeleteThese cookies have to find a way out of my house. I froze them...that will solve how many I eat....guess what.....they are good frozen. I took some to work...only 2 out of 5 asked for me to bring in how to make these. That is because I had 3 kinds of cookies and the other 3 didn't get to taste them!
ReplyDeleteLove a quick and easy recipe when you're told at the last minute that you need to bring goodies! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and those white cookies are looking tasty. Thanks for the giveaway.
