Not sure about you, but everywhere I turned on facebook and blog-land this week there was yet ANOTHER post about the Red & White Infinite Variety quilt display in NYC. And everywhere you look there are more and more pictures that pretty much look the same. If you went to the show, you know the pics don't do it justice. You had to physically stand in that room to experience the magnificence, and sheer wonder of hundreds of quilts suspended in the air.
So instead of boring you all with the same old thing, or making you feel bummed that you couldn't make it to the show, I'll describe our Red & White day in ONE picture. How's that?
Then I'll share what TRULY inspired me.
My fearless friend Liza Lucy drove a vanload of us quilter ladies into New York on Tuesday to visit the show. (I think she was crazy to drive! I only ever take the train!) We walked the entire room with our heads looking straight up (actually, I think my neck still kinda hurts...).
And tried to decide on a favorite....
Liza loved the peppermint swirls. I loved the flower applique's. And we BOTH loved the quilt with typewritten names on each block. You had to stand right up close to it to see it, but I thought that was cool. What that woman wouldn't do now with an ink-jet printer!
Did I walk away wanting to make red and white quilts?
No. Not really.
But the show DID inspire me to do THIS....
Toast walnuts....
Mix them into a yummy chocolate confection...
Plop them onto a baking sheet...
And recreate the YUMMY flourless chocolate cookies we found to nibble on at the show!
You KNOW I googled THAT recipe right away. They were featured in SELF magazine, believe it or not, it's a low-fat recipe! And only 55 calories per cookie. Not bad. Not bad. I found the recipe on Epicurious.com. Click HERE if you want to make some too!
I added some mini-choco chips....cuz, what's the harm in a little more chocolate? And I think the next time I make them, I'll stick the dough in the fridge first so the cookies are a bit thicker and gooey-er! Actually, I have big fat flakes of snow falling outside my window....sounds like the PERFECT day for baking, no?
OH...and by the way....TODAY....ONE DAY ONLY.....
